Thomson launches new ViBE encoder

Thomson Video Networks has launched the ViBE EM4000 multichannel HD encoder, the latest addition to the company’s range of MPEG broadcast reference-grade encoding solutions.

Incorporating a more powerful evolution of its Mustang compression engine, Thomson says ViBE EM4000’s performance delivers significant operational cost savings through better use of satellite or terrestrial bandwidth.

Offering an increase in compression efficiency, the ViBE EM4000 multichannel HD encoder achieves its performance through improved motion estimation and enriched encoding logic. Thomson says the encoder typically allows users to add an extra channel to a transponder without reducing picture quality, or opt for improved quality with the same number of channels. The ViBE EM4000 supports future formats including 1080p and 3D

“The ViBE EM4000 offers a notable improvement over all previous HD AVC encoding solutions,” said Christophe Delahousse, president, Thomson Video Networks. “Users currently running six channels on a transponder will be able to add a seventh, for example.”
