Sweden’s NGB pulls out of Kenya, Uganda

Swedish firm Next Generation Broadcasting has sold its interest in Smart TV, the Kenyan TV service it helped launch less than a year ago. It has also withdrawn from Uganda, where it also operated a Smart TV service.

Local reports cite NGB’s reasons for pulling out of Kenya as its “frustrating business environment”. Its DTT-delivered service launched in June 2010. NGB teamed with Kenyan company Digital Broadcasting Transmex for the Kenyan launch and it has now taken full control of NGB Kenya.

In Uganda, local partner Digital Broadcasting now wholly owns Smart TV.
In a statement Stockholm-based NGB said: “The Sixth Swedish Pension Fund (AP6), investors in NGB Africa have decided to refocus their Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) investment plan from Africa,” NGB said in the statement.”
