Sky rapped over Virgin ads
UK communications regulator Ofcom has criticised DTH operator BSkyB for
airing a number of promotional campaigns last year that related to
rival cable operator Virgin Media threatening to drop a number of Skys
channels from its line-up.
The regulator, which received a complaint from Virgin and a further 187 complaints from viewers, said that Sky had breached advertising rules because the promotional campaigns concentrated too heavily on trying to persuade Virgin customers to move to Sky.
The adverts referred to a falling out between the rival operators, which eventually led to some Sky channels including Sky One and Sky Sports News being removed from VirginÂs platform.
